How to Fish Beginner Guide: First Island Route
Follow the first How to Fish island in the right order, from your first catch and Knife to the Spider Crab, Radar, key, and boat departure.
Reported
Start by catching and selling ordinary creatures, buy the Knife before the first boss, then complete the lighthouse Beer and Spider Crab sequence. Return the required objective item, collect the key, and use the Radar instead of sailing away without a marker. The campaign mixes fishing, selling, combat, and quest hand-ins; catching fish alone will not advance every objective.

First-island route at a glance
| Order | What to do | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Catch nearby creatures and sell spare catches | Funds the first useful purchases |
| 2 | Read the active task before buying equipment | Prevents spending quest money on the wrong item |
| 3 | Buy the Knife | Gives you a dependable early combat option |
| 4 | Complete the lighthouse Beer objective | Opens the route toward the first boss task |
| 5 | Prepare, then defeat the Spider Crab | Clears the first major combat gate |
| 6 | Return the requested item and collect the key | Finishes the objective rather than only the fight |
| 7 | Use the Radar and follow the marked route | Leads toward the next island without guessing |
Catch, sell, and keep quest items separate
Sell ordinary catches when you need money, but do not automatically sell an item named in the active objective. How to Fish repeatedly asks you to bring an item back after catching or defeating a creature. Check the task text before using a rare catch for food, money, or a side machine.
Keep one open inventory slot before a boss or hand-in. If the objective does not update after a fight, confirm that you picked up the required drop and returned to the correct quest giver. The game map shows the island order, while the fish list helps identify catches and lure requirements.
Prepare for the Spider Crab
Buy the Knife and bring healing food before starting the Spider Crab encounter. Watch the creature's movement, step away from an attack, then move back in for short hits rather than holding position beside it. The exact fight can vary with difficulty and co-op, so preparation matters more than one fixed damage count.
Use the dedicated Spider Crab guide if the fight is the blocker. Defeating the boss is only part of the objective; collect what the task requests and complete the hand-in before leaving the island.
Spend early money on progress
Prioritize equipment, healing, bait, or a boat upgrade that serves the current objective. Cosmetic Reel spins and roulette bets are optional systems, not required first-island purchases. A rare Drip catch can also be useful for collection or a cosmetic spin later, so do not spend it without checking your goal.
Cooking becomes useful once a grill is available because food can support combat and valuable catches may sell for more after cooking. The cooking guide separates safe food and sale decisions from the burnt-food achievement.
Common beginner mistakes
- Sailing before the Radar or route objective is ready.
- Selling the creature or item named in the current task.
- Starting a boss without healing, ammunition, or an open inventory slot.
- Assuming a boss kill completes the quest without a return hand-in.
- Spending early cash on roulette or cosmetics while required gear is still missing.
- Testing several fixes at once when a co-op lobby fails.
After reaching the next island, keep using the same loop: read the objective, identify the required lure or equipment, prepare before combat, and return the requested item. For an optimized complete run rather than a first playthrough, use the separate Bean achievement route.
